standing on a shadow's lace

ivy cling

just as the ivy on the chair
brown, dying perched up there
I stared as it slowly crossed its death
could not discard till its last breath
within its life befell a curse
a longing from a weary thirst
should have watered with tears cried
but silently watched it as it died
so many ways it could have been saved
too many things that it craved
was it asking way too much
just to feel a caring touch
now it's dead I can't bring it back
empty chair and planter cracked
one day I'll plant again anew
gardening this time in a different view

Understood every line...quite a sense of relief, knowing that we can revive the ivy....even if it means a transplant....

again you do nice work, h.
views change in the garden and lucky we are who can see and share them, together.
hope you find a "new ivy" soon.

Great poem! Any houseplant I own has to be able to thrive on neglect... (even though I don't care for being neglected myself. *S*)
