Quilled and Quilted

in somber shadows
candle’s light flickering

outside the leaves are
in winter shivering

she rises from her desk
places another log
on the fire

intent she stares
into the crackling pyre

draws her shawl
cross shoulder slender

sits back to quill her
thoughts in render

dips the quill’s tip
in indigo ink

strokes the feather
‘cross her cheek

soft, soft smile
as thoughts creep
‘cross her mind
the loving kind

and bent, scratches across
before the line is lost

all of the reasons
for her love

of her love

to her love

shadows deepen
time comes creeping

fire dies down
she rises and candle crowns

extinguishing all of light
enveloped then in the night

retires to her chamber room
in the gloom
no need for bright
by hand she finds without sight

his quilt of warmth
pulls it up to her chin
to dream sweet dreams
of him
again

Hey how did this warm cosy little piece scoot by everyone...not fair not fair...wonderful reflections here and a beautiful scene with it...write'em up!  Don't know whether I'm too crazy about this new system where you can't bump your fav poet up the ladder a little but then I don't know everything...maybe it's for the best...love to ya my long lost sister....ethome

Oh beautiful!!!!!!  What a picture you've painted.  I think this is my favorite of yours to date.  I just loved it.
Really nice flow to this!

Wonderful, safe warm and cosy piece I like it very much, brings back feelings of hearth and home, I agree with Ethome, it nearly passed me by, thank you for sharing it.

Regards,
Olias.

Sunshine, you've managed to create a mood both serene and wistful with this piece.

Sunshine this is a beautiful poem and I can "feel" so much of it.  The crakle of the fire, the candle glow, the toasty warmth of a quilt. Beautiful.  Hugs,  ME
