I could have been a writer.
I was told I had a flair
For putting words on paper
To create a feeling there.

I could have been an artist.
People say I had a way
Of blending tints and colors
In a masterful display.

I could have been so many things.
So many chances missed!
But, due to my affliction,
I can only reminisce.......

Oh....what a man I might have been
If it were not for CNN
And CBS and NBC
And all the options there for me.

I really must confess to hate
This semi-catatonic state,
But I am held, quite willingly,
A hostage to my own t.v.!

I start out every morning
With the early morning news.
Then Market Watch A.M. Report
Gives me financial views.

From there I watch the talk shows,
And then, sometime around noon,
I sit and giggle as I watch
My favorite cartoons.

From there, you know right where I go
(Although they are for dopes)
I find myself completely hooked
On all the daily soaps!

From there I go to news again,
And then some movie shows,
The evening prayer and final word
And on it goes and goes.

Day after day, I move along
From news to benediction.
I've got to find a way to end
This horrible affliction!

It sure has taught a lesson
That I never will forget.
I need a less addictive life -
Perhaps the internet..........

ROFL...This is great, Balladeer!! Say, can you convince my husband that the internet is less addicting than t.v.?! He said he wishes he were a computer so I would pay more attention to him.....think I have a problem? Delightful poem!!

Line 4, verse nine, might have been a tad smoother as, "And on and on it goes". But it is obvious that you have lost none of your flair. You are still the best, M'sieu!

I'm so glad that you took control of your addiction. Just think how much we'd miss if you were still watching TV.
The internet can't become addictive, can it?

well, as for me, i try to cover all the bases  and combine my addictions so that i'm in total control of them, y'know? i've been known to channel surf, listen to the same cd's over and over again, hang out on 4 internet bulletin boards, and talk to 5 people on icq, while falling in love with love, chain smoking, writing poetry, staying up all night, and sipping wine.... and all at the same time!!!! *g

.... i love this poem, michael... but i love everything you write....

you've got this writing thing licked! *wink*

'Deer dear heart, up this goes where it belongs too, back to the front, oh isn't it fun to be me!! Well, I'm having a good time, no work is being done but it's okay I've got that covered.
This is utterly excellent, and I get to put it in both my libraries too. Isn't it a good thing that I can juggle, although if everyone didn't know it was me they very soon would wouldn't they. yes I know they would. I always sound like me, so it's just as well I'm not pretending to be anyone else.
Love this dear heart it is sooooooo true, and don't I wish I had the time to watch more often.
Fabulous piece absolutely fabulous

Since my email box stays appalling empty these days, I'd rapidly lose my internet addiction... except for the fact that this dern poetry site is harder to resist than Godiva chocolates after a week of Slim Fast lunches. LOL Great poem, Deer one... and yassee? Your great poems make you responsible for my addiction, too... it's all your fault! *G*

Internet.. Addicting.. HA!!! There is no way that can be true. I'm here everyday and...
Oh nevermind...
While we are on the subject though; do you think that Doreen could give me some lessons on how to multitask like that? I think that is the most work that I have heard done by one lady ever.

Balladeer,
Another wonderful piece from the master of the smooth flowing poetry.
Thank you

Love,
Lady

Written with the style, grace, rhythm and wit of the wonderful Master poet that you are ... excellent punchline my deer, I enjoyed this tremendously!!!

Ahhhhhh ... now that's better! I've been away for 2 weeks, and you're my first poetry fix Michael ! Couldn't have been a more timely topic for me (just getting rid of the poetry DT's now, as I sink into some wonderful reading ... thanks for starting me off with a smile!)

Best wishes,

LOL... yaaaa... the Internet... that will certainly cure your addiction right up! I remember when I first moved out of my parent's house... didn't own a TV for four years! Man what a great time.. got all kinds of things done... did all sorts of activities... but then I went and got married and the wife demanded a TV in the house... and basically I'm a weak willed individual... so there I sit glued to the tube... worse than any industrial epoxy you care to name. Enjoyed the read Sir Balladeer... Peace!

I sometimes think you could turn your hand to almost anything, regardless of the distractions. Your poems contain wit, warmth, reality and charm (all those were in this one), you’ve written sonnets, free verse and of course ballads and I’ve yet to find any fault in a single one.

Thanks for the chance to read and reply

Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool:
But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet.
