Little Girl

Little girl silently cries in the dark,
but, can you hear her screams?
Or have you become immune
to an innocent child's pleas?

Little girl begs for your love,
yet, does not say a word,
you do not see her wounds,
you fail to notice a heart that is bleeding,
coveting what you see day after day

Little girl smiles, little girl laughs,
she sings Hickory Dickory Dock, she licks her lollipop,
you thought that she was so simple and sweet,
but, she gave up on you long ago

Little girl plays the part,
little girl waits...
waits, until the night greets the shadows on the wall,
you did not look deep enough,
now little girl is gone

Melissa, this is so haunting - strong echoes, with varying interpretations....
It could be a child/parent situation, yet I also sense the little girl the now-grown woman used to be...Fascinating!
Its imagery is strong and memorable...
Absolutely Excellent!

Very well written, and so very true.   So often we miss something wonderful by not making the time.

To capture and live a moment is truly living

Wow.......much to be learned from this one.  Very insightful and very emotional.  The trials of one's life can often lead to the knowledge that so many don't take the time for.  Wonderful write.
