Oh no, you know what I just heard
It is February and a band of Cupids
Are lurking in the shadows, fluttering like birds
And the people are acting really stupid

It has been a whole year since this happened
And to see those little naked winged fellows
Just peeking around corners&laughing as they landed
Brings back memories that lurked in the shadows

I keep thinking they must be cold
'Cuz half the country has wind and snow
These poor little guys need some clothes
Much more than arrows as the wind blows

I hear they are looking for lovers hearts
To cuddle and keep the cold away
When all of a sudden they let fly the darts
And all of this on such a winter day

Everyone knows that love is a scarry thing
'specially when confronted by tiny flying Cupids
Without a stitch on & taking off on wing
Just confusing male & female all-age-kids

OK you say, they are what the faithful await
Each Feburary without fail, to find lovers
Who don't seem unhappy when faced with this fate
Of silly faces and hearts all a flutter

Now let me ask you what is really on my mind
Have you seen many Cupids after February fourteen
Did they get everything accomplished in time
Or still flying around but just can't be seen

I know there are still silly-looking faces
Heart-on-the-sleeve for all to observe
But, really, Cupids showing up in quiet places
I should say not! That would take a lot of nerve

I think they must be there all the time, only we aren't looking for them, so don't notice them.  I do believe one took a shot at me in the middle of the summer.

kcsgrandma, are you sure? I know they come right after Christmas, but then didn't know. Hope they didn't "hurt" you too bad. Love arrows cause alot of pain I hear.   thanks, ME

They may cause pain but the healing process is oh so sweet when it is shared with one that has been shot with your name on the arrow.  I kinda like being in love and YES, it does hurt when the potion wears off but over all I think it is worth it.  Now I am just waiting for that arrow (the REALLY POTENT ONE) to strike it's way into a special heart for me.  I can only pray that it will be before the 14th but I think she will need more time than that.  I will try to let you know if I see one of them there cupids flying around after the 14th.  Nice write by the way.  Sorry to have rambled!!

LOl..well ya got the "acting stupid" part right ...
I was just telling a friend today..
how Val-day was such a poetic cliche'
but it gives us all an excuse to be giddy and post with red hearts and angels ...and not seem SO corny
cute poem ME .. creative twist

there's so much that you can rise above.

Now, Mark, I love your rambles!  Hope the "Really Potent One" gets to that special heart soon! Keep looking for them Cupids.
                 Hugs

Janet Marie, when 'ya get as old as me it is interesting to watch those really stupid acting adults.  Of course I don't remember how those "special" arrows felt like.  Hugs, ME

I don't think that any particular time of year has much to do with it...I think they are lurking everywhere...in smiles, eyes, soft spoken tender words, hearts, open minds and in the magic that connects us as human beings ........like most arrows those ones can hurt too, especially when the potion wears off and the resopnsibility is supposed to kick in......most of all I think Cupids are living in fantasies and dreams, the type that soothes the soul........good write!
