~I originally wrote another poem that heavily focused on the circus and clowns, but, I felt that it was too forced, however, this second poem just flowed from me, so this is my entry for Janet Marie's challenge, I hope that it is good enough~

Choke The Flower

Take advantage of a rose in remorse
change the destiny of it's course,
fill the earth with thunder shower,
watch it drown, choke the flower,
provoke the quicksand of dirt beneath it
to swallow it's pride, forcing it to submit,
burn the rose in the sting of the sun
rip it's petals off, one by one,
dull it's fragrance, kick it when it's down
make it's eyes shed the tears of a clown,
allow polluted air to touch it with deadly kiss
penetrating it's layers with acid darkness,
stomp on it's fragility with steel-toed shoe
turn it's passion red into sorrow blue,
silence the melody within it's newborn throat
scratch and scrape it's soft velvet coat,
capture it's glow, sell it to a star,
slash it's stem, like the butcher you are,
dig up it's seeds in savage rage
erase the ink in the book of it's soul, scar each page,
snap it's spine, as it bows down in defeat
breath upon it your bitter to replace it's sweet,
summon the heavy snows
to envelop the screaming rose,
attacking it with frost bite
in the pale of twilight,
steal it's golden memories,
leave it with amnesia, infested with disease,
marked with tatooes of sores, never to fade,
destroy this beauty with a rusted razor blade,
rub corrosive salt into the weeping wounds,
strangle it's gasp, forever alone, entombed,
revive it's heartbeat just before it is slayed,
deformed with tattered skin and leaves frayed,
choke the drooping flower,
let it's leaves dry sour,
replace it's purity with deepest sin
laugh as it disintegrates in the wind,
abandon the rose, a victim for desert storms
parched and sterile, lost in dementia with only the thorns
~*~
I'm sure that you feel better - now that the rose wears the face of a clown,
funny, you still cannot hide that dandelion frown

My dear Melissa were you ever hard on that poor rose! I kept feeling sorry for it all the way through so I guess you accomplised what you set out to do...very well done I'd say!   It was a pleasure to read!   ethome

Melissa, this is excellent...
the imagery here is awesome ... as is the power of the emotions expressed
excellent use of phrase and metaphor
very well done girlie.
your pen is on fire of late which is way cool

Tomorrow holds only mystery
And who's to say what might be
But in you I've found a love so strong
The sun and the moon look on in jealousy
