Listening to every heart

an open letter to her folks

she says, "hey mom and dad,
think of you every day,"
she's not so sad
anymore
so many good memories
a'coming to the fore

she says, "hey mom, dad
if you could be here now
you'd be seeing your daughter
ready to take a bow,

for your daughter is going to do
something nice, and fine,"
and something already tells her
they'll be there, in her mind

now she's got a speech to prepare
something about "family"
it's for a legal organization
she's lent her time a decade, you see…

she's taken every step
as if her parents were there
she's really wanted them to know
and in this, shows her care…

she hugs her friends as they would
have done
her spirit is them, in kind
she oft shares stories of the two
for they're ever there in her mind

and lately she has followed her soul
on a dream she's had for so long
and she knows her folks would approve
for everyone should sing their song

she finds a way to share herself
she's put her shyness on the shelf
and with a current family,
she shares a love of poetry…

then when she sees the geese on wing
her spirits, soaring, bring
memories of her folks
for they were like that too…
lifetime mates, for eternity,
to see each other through…

and she wonders, in her heart
how great is a love that would impart
a lifetime of loving, a lifetime of care
those who would a forever share

so as she plans her speech
that one on family…
she smiles, and softly whispers…
"Thank you Passions in Poetry…."

Fabulous letter here, Sunshine.  I am betting they are very proud of you and they know what a wonderful job you have done with your life my friend.  I love this.

It is such a natural thing to want our loved ones to see us at the special times in our lives.......there is NO way they would not be proud of you, Sunshine

Thank you all very much.  I have a couple of big events coming up...I wish my folks could be here for them....but I know they are watching...for I talk to them often, and feel their smiles....

thank you for sharing these memories and thoughts with me....
