Between a laugh and a tear...

0 posted 2001-02-05 06:57 AM

In memory of Mr. Norm Chapman, the heart and soul of the Rutherford Junior Soccer Club for over 30 years. Passed away on Saturday aged 84 years.

He's gone! We'll buried him tomorrow
And as one we shall gather and mourn
To honour and remember that fine old man
A mentor and a friend, known simply as Norm

We'll cry, sigh, and say our goodbye
Then one last journey, one last farewell
Down past the field that bears his name
A place so many of us know all too well

Shared his tutelage, patience, and encouragement
With those lessons learned, they were never the same
Showed them honour, respect, fun and fair play
And the children grew as they played the game

It is said he had been around forever
More than just a man, he was an Icon
And so it shall be with him in my heart
Though he is gone, his spirit shall always live on!

" I have seen without perceiving
I have been another man
Let me pierce the realm of glamour
So I know just what I am"....Dweller on the Threshold,

Tomorrow holds only mystery
And who's to say what might be
But in you I've found a love so strong
The sun and the moon look on in jealousy

A very fine tribute to an honored friend.  I too like the lines about his tutelage.

I will say, if you are going to share this with the group at the service, check the first line.  You have some verb disagreement.

I think it's fabulous that he will live on through those he touched and through your poem....God bless

Beautiful tribute to him my friend.  He will always live on through the lives of those he touched.  A fitting legacy.

Just a beautiful tribute, dear poet.

Because you cared enough to share Norm with us ...
I will say thank you.

No greater honour than to be remembered.
A fine tribute.
