Early to bed
By Richard Maxfield
1-31-2001

Early to bed
Early to rise
Work like hell
Before sun rise

On rolling hills
In fields of green
Tend the stock
Calm serine

Glistening dew
Smell cut grass
Fresh turned soil
Rain has passed

Newborn calves
Duck filled pound
Sturdy old doe
Young spindly fawn

Twisted bob wire
Rugged old post
It is the land
I love the most

Tilling the soil
Plant my seeds
Tend the stock
Shovel out feed

Like my father
My blood is here
Spirit soaring
Conscience clear

This is my heritage
To which I was born
With out this land
A life of thorn

So, you're trying to get wise *wink* eh, Richard?  This is a good one.  I think, though, that I would use assonance on the last line and go ahead and put an 's' on thorn.  Try it, and then do what you wish of course.
