Listening to every heart

It Happened Again

I can't stay forty-nine
no, I cannot do this,
all of the time
because good vibrations
come to me
good, good, good vibrations

and I got a good sensation ~
what and where I was long ago
oh the music it transported me
to a place I want to go

back to age nine in sixty-one
when music was fun, fun, fun
and the worst thing on a boy's mind
was to do some draggin' in a 409

the night wore on, it did all right
the music was rocking, all ages in sight
Beach Boys were beached, in Kansas
it seems
and for me, behold, a childhood dream!

for I've been teased, called
"a beached babe"
'cause from CA I came
folks wondered at the trade…

for an in-between kind of girl
the sort with naivete
still in her eyes
I can still be surprised
as I come to self-realize
who I was, who I am, and
who I might someday be…

a beached babe who's happy she's she…

so last night I transported back
some forty years
the music was all UP
even through the tears
folks on their feet, moving
to the beat
did they all feel it to be as sweet?

but the song that hit hardest
for silent reasons long known
was Brian's In my Room
I didn't know then of his foggy gloom
nor the reasons for him to
want to be alone
I just thought then that he wrote it
for me and me alone…

know how it is? when that one
song reaches out to grab
your heart and clutch your throat?
knowing it was for you
and your feelings he wrote?

so my two brains talked away
last night, through the misty haze
of those long ago yesterdays
straight through the Kokomo craze
and all the smiles they've brought to me

so go ahead, laugh and have fun
with me,
call me "beached babe" 'cause
that's what I be…

for my imagination can take
the waving grain
and I can see the surf roll in
and when the wind is right
smell the salt on the air,
and in sunshine, walk the plains ~
there are times you'll see
me smile like I've not a care…
for the music lives on
in the wind, and in my heart,
and I take it then and share with impart,
because I live again,
and within
the sound of the music's spin.

I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

ya know....I thought you looked tanner this morn
way way cool Sun ...
you have captured the way it feels perfectly
the way the "golden oldies" take us back and
refresh our souls ...
for me it was Jackson Browne,Van,Journey,
or me girlie Linda Ronstadt...
I so related to your lines about how you just knew they wrote for you...
it did feel that way ..in Jackson's every word.
way cool tribute to music that plays inside us forever...
go back to the beach ... its the weekend baby

No way I can top Janet Marie's reply, but this is definitely way cool.  Thanks for the trip down memory lane.  That music does stay with you forever.

Way to roll, Sunshine!
Yep, that's why my radio is always tuned to the 'golden oldies'....was the music actually better back then - or is it just our memories that give it meaning?  (But how could anyone make memories with Rap?!)
A great trip - I could feel the pulse!

ROTFLMBO....
RUTH!  Now...ahem....the Beach Boys gallantly acknowledged the Beatles as one of their favorite groups....

But we all know the Beach Boys Rule!

Glad everyone enjoyed!  Thanks for reading!

ah Kathleen....we had over 5000 folks of ALL ages show up...the house was rocking!  They went a solid two hours....no break!  Even brought up one of local cheerleading squads to perform during some of the songs....

a great night!
