I felt the hand of sorrow
just the other day
and I knew the end of tomorrow
would soon become today
I never held the little things
I always passed them by
never knew the caged bird sings
until it said good-bye
I'd never heard a more painful cry
than the tune that was sung
never knew a more terrible lie
around my throat had hung
I stood to hear the sorrow song
and I waited endlessly
held in place by the tortuous wrong
bestowed upon eternity
from tears to joy and back again
my heart and soul did go
it showed alot of me within
and somethings I did not know
I grew to love this singing soul
and all that it could see
it made my life seem so whole
and set my spirit free
then I saw with wondrous eyes
the meaning of the caged bird's song
and I came to realize
it was in me all along
so blind I must have been
to never see the sheets
and deaf I should have been
I never heard the streets
yet now I hear their harmonious ring
even on the darkest nights
to all the places joy can bring
outshining the brightest of lights
I'll always remember the caged bird
and the sorrows it made me see
I'll always rest assured
because the bird had set me free

Ah yes, The Ladies of the Phoenix will love this post, especially with your reference to the change that has overtaken Passions!  Well done, glad to see this one again!

Wow!  I like this, a lot.  It made me think, and it's beautiful.  I think I'll put it in my library, where I can read and think some more.  Nice lessons learned from that caged bird.

To love another person is to see the face of God.

Not going to 'hit' you. This is wonderfully written. I enjoyed every bit of it.

well, des, i've always said that life is like taking a brand new crisp perfectly good $100 bill and breaking it into $20's and a couple of $10's and a handful of quarters and pennies and then going out and blowing it all on stuff that doesn't last.... yep...life is change, all right.... and

if i had a nose full of nickles
i'd sneeze them all atchoo!!!

hehe *wink*.... what a difference a day makes, y'know? speaking of which, i dig the poem, soldier... when's the dancing start?

These thoughts should be universally acknowledged.
Nicely portrayed.

Ya can't go wrong with this one! I love it and the message in it, Des. You keep writing, and I'll keep reading!

No special words of wisdom from methistime although....

I never did like cages.
