these 2 were written one after the other, one day apart, and as i look back, you sorta have to read both to get the full effect of the last one, so i am posting together

A toast to Used To Be

Perplexing, this ‘used to be’.
Deciphering attempts
have left me thoughtless.
How exactly did it happen
that we used to be
friends,
doesn’t that defy the meaning?
I haven’t changed
well not that I realize and that’s
part of the problem, I suppose,
anyway, I
still miss you
just as much but
my fingers weren’t long enough to reach as you drifted
out of touch.

A little at a time you slipped further and further
out into the vast Cyber Sea.
Sadness stuck me in the sand; I watched you leave.
You never heard me whisper
the softest of goodbyes
you never heard me shout
out loud.
I wish my smiles could have turned
your rudder
but I couldn’t find them
overboard they had slipped
into my ocean.

As Your Fulfilling sails
don’t look back, don’t look into my salty waters
just think of me, once in a while
and maybe,
maybe it won’t be such a bad thing
this used-to-be...
perchance if you were to call
one last time
it would be nicer
than the memory of your back
we could meet at the top of the sun
sitting on the water’s edge
raise our glasses
smile one last smile
and toast to what
used to be.

dr.s bills and bandages

after you left, i, somewhat
unwhole, tried to step back
into my own but
incompletely executed the deed,
i found out why as i spied
my shadow slipping
secretively after you
coaxing memories, penning the past
with sappy ink dribbling
"...toast's to used to be"
and "i will meet you on the sun..."
and what i really should do is kick
my shadow straight in the butt-
(i mean really, unless you plan to self
combust, who sits on the sun
except in a corny poem anyway?)
gurney the painfully burned thing
to the hospital and when
the bandages finally come off,
with dr.'s bill in hand
my shadow and i, reality will face,
because dr. bills and bandages
are real and you
aren't coming back

There is nothing wrong with thinking "used to be's."  Our past is part of who we are.  I liked the poems, keep up the good work.

Miss A, thank you, and yes I know it gets easier all the time, these were actually written a few months ago, and as so not so painful to post now

Jeremy thank you, and yes, the past is best to keep track of so you won't make the same mistakes over

Regardless of when they were written, they could be my words. *S* Except of course, I usually ramble on endlessly... I may occasionally burp out a rhyme ... but I'm rarely succinct. *S* While you write with a surgeon's skills, exposing the heart with expertise. *S* Both of these are painful... but the second provides some much needed grins. *S* And don't forget... if you get tired of kicking your own fanny, just let me know. (evil grin contemplating the "help" I could give!) LOL
