My thoughts have settled thickly
into clots of cloistered grey
where dustmites chew
and mildew creeps, on pungent paths
hallucinating
lies are true
and truth has lied.

Ghosts replant my
should-have-dones
in staggered furrows
guilt has dug.
Clustered blooms of
might-have-beens
dip low in mock obeisance,
ever teasing, ever knowing
they remain beyond my reach.

I stumble through the roles I play
as parts of me are shedding,
new skin growing
with a pallor I despise.
At times my pain
the only sane
reminder I'm alive.

I'm sinewed between frames
of grasping at
and being pulled.
Acutely taut,
a slingshot poised.
(Could I survive release?)

I've lost my equilibrium
and straight's not straight enough.
I feel I'm always walking
on the edge of falling off.

wow, I almost hesitate to reply immediately after reading, this is so hard hitting that it needs read again and again...I walk the same walk you do, its just that you say it better than i ever could......*shakes her head* this is amazing

Thanks everyone!
jellybeans, you do some pretty amazing things yourself!  And at least this walk is temporary (as long as we decide that it is *g*).
Seymour & Kathleen - I am happy that you enjoyed it!
Charisma, thank you - I know you understand.
Doreen - Yo! All the way from Alberta to Virginia!  (If you  don't 'Yo' down there,
it's an enthusiastic greeting *g*)
Much appreciated!
