And We Walked
Virginia Salter

Autumn fell
snapped a cold spell
yet this night
summer slipped in
to tickle our memories
with warm
gentle breezes
to finger our hair
linger about our neck and ears
kiss our cheeks

new moon hid
behind itself
above the clouds
that blew in
covered the stars
hovered above
as a canopy of warm
moist air
and we walked

strangers
passing in the night
neath the light
of old lamplighter’s ware

Wow........what lovely images in this one.  I love it when you paint a scene of the seasons.  You do it with such vividness that I can tell you appreciate these gifts of God tremendously.

Each season has its beauty. And you express that beauty well.
Nice work.
Did you know that 'vas' is a Latin word for vessel? Being the root for the word 'vase'.
Etymology is a hobby of mine.

Thank you, Ian, no I didn't.  I, too, am interested in etymology but I haven't begun seriously.  Once I tried to get a book on it and wasn't successful.  I don't recall if she, the book seller, couldn't find one or that it was too expensive at the time for my economic status.

Years ago, when I used to oil paint, I used to kid around about my initials.  I'd heard on t.v., probably on a sitcom, that difference between a /vaz/ and a vase, the /vaz/ was over 25 dollars. Well, that was in the 60's, so that price is probably 100 or more now, but anyway, I'd kid that my paintings were a /vaz/ not a vase.

I thank you for the info, not to support my joking around, but to consider even my initials name me a vessel is exciting.  Since I'm a faith-filled person, I wish to be His vessel and to emanate to those around me that He is alive in me.  I do so wish to always be His vessel.  So you get double thanks!

What an evocative atmosphere - I feel in my bones!  When we know winter is on its way, how we cherish those final whispers of summer - and this is what you have done. Lovely!

Lovely...reminds me of an evening shortly after I met my girlfriend Billy...It was a moonlit night and the breeze was blowing mysteriousely and we each walked halfway from our houses and met in the moonlite under a sycamore tree...and we walked and talked and romanced...James

Your writing speaks loudly of His life within you, Virginia, as I'm sure your paintings do too! You are a lovely vessel!
