Canyon Of Angels

*By Melissa Honeybee*

On canyon's edge,
just between Heaven and earth,
at the doorway of time's endless horizon,
she gazes at a world
once within her hands,
a world, now deaf to the melodies of angels in the moonlight,
blind, to these miracle-winged messengers in flight
~*~*~
On marigold wings branched out
with gown of ivory, waving in the insipid breeze,
she watches the tainted earth perform it's picture show,
accompanied by beastly companions -
once angels fair,
now wolves with hearts forced to stone,
there, she sits, beside them, yet alone
~*~*~
As night devours the land below,
the thunder of a bomb fills the sky,
vibrating from star to star
with a sound so final
and yet it seemed to ring on in her ears
and in her heart, forevermore,
drenching her beauty with scars
~*~*~
Witnessing war's play,
tears overflow from silver eyes
tarnishing her majestic gold wings,
demons feast upon the day,
armored tanks rumble through the streets,
as human voices echo, daring to defeat the clatter,
but, not succeeding
~*~*~
There, she sits on the edge and sighs
for the lifelessness in the shadow of children's eyes,
for the bodies on sidewalks that men used to walk upon,
where children used to play...
as their imagination followed the endless beat of hopscotch,
jumping from hope to dream...
dream to hope
~*~*~
Staring at the blood-stained ground,
the ruins,
the broken spirits
and the mangled minds,
her insides turn inside out,
her wings ache -
unable to cradle and protect...
helpless, to heal a world
engulfed in evil's flames
~*~*~
Silent with the wind, she weeps crystals down,
unable to understand how
a masterpiece painted by God's very hand
could now so easily turn to gray
~*~*~
Even in the loneliness,
dawn's breath offers peace somehow,
penetrating her chilled heart,
the final curtain closes,
devastation takes a bow
~*~*~
Still, this guardian of souls
refuses to lose hope
for a world she so dearly loves,
yet, the sands through the hourglass of time
scream that it's too late to save her angel confidants,
no longer great bearers of blessings
enslaved as wolves,
their faith fades with the night
as they prowl the canyon ground,
to Heaven's light, they must say goodbye
howling their woe to an empty sky

Very painful and powerful, Melissa (I think I've said that to you before!   ), and your description is vividly amazing! Well done once again!

Just see how virtue repays you, you turn and someone betrays you
Betray him first, and the game's reversed...

Oh my, Melybee....

you brought forth such SOUNDS as have not been heard in quite some while....

I heard the "thunk" of an arrow to a chest...
the shot of cannon to a breast...
the roar of flame as in a fighter
and the draw of breast grew tighter...

this indeed will draw us as one
to live, to live, underneath the sun....

An excellent write, my young friend...

Wow....incredibly powerful Melissa.  Truly sorrowful, but beautiful work.  Your talent continues to amaze me.

Melissa~
Wonderful !
My favorite part~

'where children used to play...
as their imagination followed the endless beat of hopscotch,
jumping from hope to dream...
dream to hope'

Stand down sweet guardian ...
There are fleet-of-foot angels on the watch ~

Sven, Karilea, Koko, Krista, Marge:

Thank you so much for travelling on this journey with the angel...
Your encouraging replies mean the world to me   Dont' inflate my ego too much now LOL!
Actually it's good to hear compliments because I often doubt my ability to write poetry.

Sven, Koko, Krista~ Wow! Thank you!

Sunshine~ What a creative reply!

Marge~ You always seem to find the most hopeful lines in my poetry

Take care,
Melissa

(big hugggsssssss) This is so very heartachingly wonderful, sweet friend, there is indeed still hope, and I pray that together the angels will entwine halos and perforate this manipulation with the light of good-will and unconditional love for all mankind! (kiss on cheek) This is outstanding, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
