This is my 4000th post here. I reached 3000 October 31st, 2000, and since then I have written exactly three poems. Hmmmm.

Can you look into his eyes and say
That you really want him to die?
Can you look into his eyes and miss
The tears that he does cry?
Can you look into his eyes and feel
The pain that he has felt?
Can you lok into his eyes and blame him
For the lot he has been dealt?

Can you try to feel the pain he's borne
Ever since he was small?
Do you realize he has feelings, too,
Or do you not see that at all?
Can you try to understand him
Or for you would that be too hard?
Can you look at his sensitive spirit
And notice that it has been marred?

If you would take but one moment
And see his beauty, not only the bad,
You would realize that he is a person
Who so many sorrows has had.
You maybe do not want to take the chance
But you just may get a surprise
And see something you did not notice before
If you would look into his eyes.

I LOVE this compassionate poem of understanding and sincerity.
you write my heart in this Elizabeth ...
you see with butterfly eyes sweet poet
wonderful write and congrats on your 4000th post ...
its quality not quantity ...
and this proves it....
we all go thru spells like this ...
one of the thorns of the poetic rose I guess
moody muses are part of it.
But yours gave a gem of grace with this,
way coool

This has compassion written in every line. It's true that so many times we can hardly see beyond surface things.
Love the heart I read in this.

Eliabeth,

This is such a beautiful write that many can relate to...

Have many thoughts that have raced through my mind every time i read these lines....
Every verse has a message to it that weaves to the other verses.

Janet~thorns of the poetic rose is absolutely right....thank you for understanding and for your kind words. I've often wished that people would be more understanding of others and see them for who they are, not what they've done.

Rose~thank you for reading, glad you enjoyed.

Melton~thanks much...

Virginia~thank you too...

Bernie~thanks for your words. Glad that you could relate to it.

What a lovely poem of warmth and compassion.  This is a remarkable way to celebrate your 4000th post.  Congrats not only on reaching 4000 but on penning a superb piece of poetry.  Hope to see you going for number 5 real soon.  I will be looking for it.
