Might We?
Virginia Salter

autumn’s wood smoke
floats on  gentle breezes
transports me to deep, deep woods
where campfires blaze
melt and blacken marshmallows
crisp up wienie skins
salivate taste buds
to weaken one’s discipline

then
slowly, slowly
footsteps’ echoes
find their way to my ears
bringing me back
back to pounding concrete
of city street
reality of autumn
kissing evening air

chimneys begin their belching
pulling one’s thoughts
to hearth and home
impending harvest
squash, pumpkin
apples brandished
from afternoon sun
then chilled by morning
crispness

love summer
yes I do
but snuggling up to blankets
and you
are so very special
when frigid air
greets the day
giving me
call to cuddle-play

might we sit
two-by-two
an apple pie
as sweet as you
one fork between
to feed our hearts
on autumn’s blessings
might we?

Nice autumn "float", Virginia.  I love seasonal poems like this, each one a little tonic of memory and hope.

Thanks Mark and Krawdad for reading and your nice comments.  And Mark, it's purely contrived, I don't have a significant other, just memories. }

Thanks, Denise, glad you enjoyed.  Heh-heh, so you focused on the food rather than the romantic interlude, eh?  Sounds familiar.
