What honour is there
Holding fast to memories
And letting love go

We all have wings...some of us don't know why

Paula in my experience I let go of love simply because it is not as much fun when the one you love doesn't have any to share with you...I always think of love as something to share...James

Yes, it is quite a good question, but what I believe in is that true love is really the only true love, and it should be shared and without selfishness or greed. If it doesn't, it isn't love. So if it isn't that, it just has to go. (sad sigh) So sad but true. Excellent haiku, my friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

A heart should not try to hold ...
something that will not stay.
Grant love wings ... allow it to fly ...
when meant to be ... it shall return another day.

Poets have asked and answered this question ...
in so many a different poetic way.
This heart knows from trial and error,
tis MUCH harder to love and let fly ...
than it tis to poetically say .

needless to say ...
your senyru had its emotional intended and required impact ...

very well done Paula-girlie ...
love your sig, btw

Sweet James...love is sharing babe...but sometimes the memory of love holds you in its grasp and blinds you to a real and lasting love that can be held and nurtured...honour doesnt warm your bed or your heart

Victoria...you said it...even when the memories are still being made...

Noah...there are times when love disguises itself...its there in the funniest places...you just have to be willing to look

Janet...well letting go can be hard...who wants to cause or feel pain? But there comes a time when you have to decide and thats difficult and scary...thanks glad you like the sig...U2 I believe

"...honor doesn't warm your bed or your heart"

Good love, enduring or short-lived, is FOREVER in it's time-space.  It was not only for the lovers but was shared by all who felt it's warmth and/or saw its glow.

A bystander seeing the pair of you, fingers entwined, love radiating from you like rain from a cloud, smiles, feels warm, is touched inside and goes away never knowing whether your love lasted or died, but always feeling that moment as something special in their life.

So love touches many (unknown to you) forever, though for you it may have died in the present; the honor in memories (though you may choose to try and hide them) lies in all those touched by the beauty of the love you shared, much as a rose spreads it petals for all to see, then fades and dies, gone from the bush that produced it, but never-the-less a beautiful thing - now only a memory to all it touched.

Jimmy...WOW...my intent was to say there is no honour holding on to a love thats no longer there at the expense of a new love...I know love touches more than those doing the loving...just reading here lets others feel a part of what you feel...but you made me think Jimmy you made me think

Sunshine...LOL thank you

Marsha...cmon girl you can do this...one word at a time LOL...thanks sweetie

"What honour is there holding fast to memories and letting love go?"
Well, I personally believe that memories are GOOD. Yes, if the person isn't a part of your life anymore, there is a need to let the love go, but memories are worth holding onto. Those memories are the ones that make us who we are and keep us from making the same mistakes twice or putting a smile on our faces on a really hard day. Yes, they can also hurt, but I can't imagine my life without memories. Hold tight to them...they'll carry you far.
Take care of yourself, Pixydust

I sure don't have a good answer for this one, but I know that without honor, all else is lost.

Pixydust...I never said memories were a bad thing...its holding onto the memory at the cost of something in the present that I am speaking of. Thanks

Kathleen...yes you have to be honourable in all you do...but you can carry it too far...and pay way to high a price...thank you

Excellent work Paula! There is a lot of complexity woven into this short question.
