my shoulders are heavy...
in my head
has been dropped a boulder
bearing down upon my neck
crushing my fragile
shoulders

i become old
as the wieght suffocates the youth
of me
there is no time to feel the pain
there is no time to purge the tears
as i am slowly being poisoned
to a death that does not become me

i could scream
but who would hear

this weight is overpowering
i am tired
too tired to fight this familiar battle
i lay down in the blood of me
where once i shed the tears
and i close my eyes..

those who will come to see
will call me old...

What an awful weight of sadness in this poem, Gale!  I especially liked the last lines.  How true that burdens can make us appear old before we attain old age!

To love another person is to see the face of God.

Oh this is so filled with lamentations.  Fallen Rain, is it autobiographical in any sense?  Do you wish prayer?  Such a fervent moaning is present here.

Let us know.

YOU OLD!???????!!!  I think not.  Powerful verse of realization to THOSE of us who are really there.  Wonderful writing and great choice words carrying much impact.

(tears coming down my cheeks) Oh, this poem is filled with such immense pain and sorrow. Oh, please don't say that, please don't say that at all. Your heart speaks of a wisdom that shines with the liveliness of youth and happiness. You mean so much to us all, we love you all so much. Now may love and light overcome all and raise your shoulders and toss that boulder like a discus. I pray all this pain is replaced by love very soon (sniff) Thank you for sharing, my friend!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
