That Touch of Clash

No, the title is not a typo error
it’s just that I want to be up front
or perhaps I should say just a bit fairer
before I’m perhaps a bit too blunt.

Ere I say too much and ramble on
about masses of folks I don’t know,
you mustn’t think my mind is gone
in telling stories of what irritates me so.

Now if you are here, reading this
then perhaps you are a lot like me:
we make a hit, we make a miss,
and basically believe in good, you see.

And I’d like to think I’ve a touch of class
never snobby, a somewhat ordinary lass,
and then there’re those that’re somewhat brash
and that, I tell you, is a Touch of Clash.

You’ve seen them, the ones that look down,
who seem to have this perpetual frown
as if the air is filled with a ragweed spray
and always they feel they have the right to say

what’s on their mind, right or wrong, oh yes!
and you will never, ever hear them confess
to nothing other than having the finest things,
that material wealth to which they cling.

While to you or me it seems quite silly
they speak of how much it costs to send Billy
to his “proper school”, so without edification
we know that his is the better education.

Well, then there’s me, just looking ‘round here
watching all the sillies I would hold dear
knowing that I’d not trade in my backyard grass
while they hold forth with their Touch of Clash.

Now, I won’t say those folks can’t have it all
but I’d rather be plain folk and hear the Call;
I’d rather stand far and alone than be in a mass,
and if I be remembered, that it be as a Touch of Class.

Amen...Class is always better than clash.  Wonderfully said.

Great piece, Sunshine!  Thanks for reposting especially for me.  I'm glad I noticed it.  Certainly wasn't expecting one 'for me'

Also, can't help but agree with you.  You make some fine points.

Karilea--You are you, my friend...as you as they come...and them clashers don't hold a candle to your class.  Very wise and thoughtful words you've penned, dear...thanks for reposting.
