Scratches
Virginia Salter

scratches on the patio glass
like fingernails against my spine
grating on every nerve
blackness of night
creates an eeriness
to their sounds

intermittently
they occur, many strokes
than silence
as I await, wondering
will they return or cease
will I be plagued
or freed
from the agony
of their piercing strains
or will the sounds
grow deeper
carving a reminder
into my being
that

the cat is at the door

Awfully cute, Melissa!
Serenity, you made me laugh right out loud, truly!

bump...and Sunshine, if you pop in, I had wanted more space between the last line of this piece and the rest of it...to lengthen the suspense.  Are you able to edit it for me?

This was fun VAS, thanks.
I wasn't thinking cat, 'cause mine stay in, but maybe a branch in the wind . . .
