Sixteen and Full of Balloons

She is sixteen
and full of balloons

She rides on her smile
she has stopped traffic
with her outstretched warmth
I have just turned the corner

She is laughter blooming
hair brushed to crackle
blue jeans and whispers
bare feet on blacktop

She is suntan and freckles
long soft sweatshirts
city street around her
she is the lights

My window just passed her
caught in reflection
handlebars and sneakers
she caught my heart

She is sixteen
and full of balloons
she is beginning

You have perfectly captured that moment between child and adult when we are ready to spread our wings and learn to fly. I love your imagery; you have painted such a vivid picture of the girl. "full of balloons" - that phrase says it all. Well done!

Marge is sitting there smiling, but I'm grinning, because THIS is one experience one can't describe without having been there herself...full of balloons! You know I'm loving the whole image!

What a wonderful description!!! Poised to fly, bright with color, not yet deflated with life... I love the pictures you share through your poems!
