The Predator

pretty little hate dance
groovin’ to devilish music
in the coldness of my heart
sinister lyrics of love’s betrayal
spilling from my lips
with each spiteful verse’s start

sexual predator
stalking new territory
ugly floodlights flash my whiplash grin
a wolf in sheep’s clothing
sensing my next kill
adjusting my disguise, I start to close in

my prey turns to greet me
with her effervescent smile
stopped short, I falter at her greeting
heart race in my throat
my senses warn danger
glancing back a moment, thoughts of retreating

caught in her eyes
her spotlight is upon me
all composure gone, unsure of what to say
no longer the hunter
as her beauty weakens me
I shake my head and slowly walk away

I like the turn that this one took.   Nice writing.

doreen,

Here I come! A cheesy pick up line and I'm lookin' for love! lol Seriously, thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. It's funny because the events that prompted me to write this poem proved to me that for all of my frustation with relationships of the heart, I am unable to stoop to the level that so many "predators" do. Hey, that's something to smile about!  )

Sven,

So true my friend, so true... although in this case, I wasn't "had" as much as I was "seen right through".  )

Temptress,

I like the turn this one took too  ). Thank you!

) sorry for posting back to back; I didn't see Paula and deVine's responses when I was writing my last response.

Paula,
     Thanks for the smiles!

Poet deVine,
Thank you; the "twist" was my inspiration for writing this poem.  )
