The chilling winds whip through the air;
Perilous patches are everywhere
And frozen fingers and frozen toes
And frozen ears - oh, my frozen nose.
The freezing rains from the clouds of gray
Have glazed again the ground today;
The branches, so bare, unoccupied
Look petrified as we slip 'n' slide
All bundled up as we dream of spring
And of all the warmth that spring can bring:
-No trace of ice seen on the ground
-Not a single snowflake to be found
-Not a hint of winter anywhere
Only balmy breezes in the air.

Oh, you can have this frigid chill
Yes, I for one, have had my fill.

Myself I love the snow, cold crisp nights and the spring....The cold wet rain,I dont like.
While I read thru this I had to laugh because one line in here made me picture people slipping and falling. Now I know thats not suppose to be funny but something about wathing someone slipping and falling makes me laugh, that is as long as they`r not hurt.
Very Nice.

What's with all these negative views of winter?  I, myself, am currently snowed in my house and am loving it.  So beautiful...  But, the poem was nice... if u discount the unfair personality of winter.

Really, it was a great poem.

Thanks, Mr. Magoo, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, it can be funny watching all the slippin' and slidin', as long as they don't get hurt!

PoeticEnchantress- I guess I'd just rather be in the Bahamas.....hehehe.....I'm not thrilled with snow and ice since I broke my arm during the last blizzard. Since I have to leave the house and go to work, no matter the weather, I'd rather have NO SNOW AND ICE! Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Don't get much "slipping and sliding" down here in the Houston area, but do love weather in general except when it's so hot and humid here like last summer. Love thunder storms most I guess.  Just in the 30's / 40's down here lately (50's highs) but cold enough.

Enjoyed this read much.

Oh, I am SO MUCH with you on this one, Denise.
Take me back..do do do do..take me back
To San Diego, with no ice or snow
Take me back..palm trees wave in balmy breeze
To the land of nothing cold..want to go?

see how you inspired me??

Very good, Sandra! I wish I could write on the spur of the moment like that! Yes, I'm ready! My back is still aching from shoveling another 5 inches yesterday....it was light and fluffy and I guess I got carried away because it didn't seem so bad at the time.....but I paid for it later! Thanks for reading and for your poetic reply!

dsnyder-I'm with you, cute poem.  Winter is for hibernating and unthawing.  I'm looking forward to spring.

Oh yes, winter is such a magical season, just like the spring and autumn! It gets awfully cold, that's for sure, but the beauty of the snow, the serenity of the wind, ah, such lovely things! I would step outside and do snow angels whenever I wasn't writing or playing! Enchanting! Thank you for sharing, my friend!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Denise, what an amazing write. You can write with such lovely flow my dear. Is this another sonnet form? Which is it.
Jeez, now i'm going to have to learn another form, cause this is too amazing.

Wow! Thanks, Parker, I'm glad you like it so much! I wrote this two years ago, in January, as a matter of fact, dealing with seemingly endless ice storms that year and recalling a broken bone from a couple of years prior to that. Just my way of venting and trying to have some fun at the same time!    No, it's not a sonnet of any kind that I am aware, just a regular old poem! I had only been writing for six months when I wrote this and didn't know too many different forms at the time (none, to be exact!). Thanks again!

Oh, I am sooo there with you on this one, Denise!  I don't normally have anything against winter, but this year is especially dreary...don't know why though.  Hmm..anyway...great write!  I love it!!

Denise, come on down!  We have been cold, but no snow or ice so far.  The fishing is good ( and not ice fishing ) the sun is warm and I hope to be here until no chance of ice or snow!  I am not a winter person.  Hugs to warm you,  ME

Thank you, Snowpants, Elizabeth and ME! Glad you enjoyed this! My bags are packed ME!! I am in desperate need of some warmth!! (now, if I could just get a few weeks off from work.....hehehe) PGW, our natural gas supplier (owned by the city) just raised their rates twice since November 22nd for a whopping total of 520%. YIKES   It went from .10 cents a gcf to .30 cents a gcf to .62 cents a gcf,(is that percentage right?) in two months! They cited 10 years of mismanagement and very low increases for this humongous increase....blah, blah, blah...there ought to be a law......so I'll be a bit on the chilly side until Spring gets here. I'm keeping my thermostat below 65 degrees because I refuse to give them anymore money than I have to. They estimated that the average bill is going up by about $199.00 for the heating season. And they're getting another 11% increase in March. *shaking head in disbelief and putting on another sweater*

Thanks again, everyone!!

That's the downside of winter. The snow is pretty and all, but people drive like absolute MANIACS, and the ice is a story in itself!! Now, if the snow and ice would just stay off the roofs, sidewalks, and roads, it would all be great. Hope you don't break any bones this winter, Denise!!
