Avian Penthouse Virginia Salter just beneath land’s edge rests my home nestled on a precipice overlooking colored patchwork morning rises I spread my wings and soar above that glorious abundant valley floor cumulus floats around me mystifying the atmosphere winging in and out of sunbeams seeing ever clear within green and amber fields brown darts about with speed gray hops in zigs and zags as I weave between the crags lifting high, with each head raise diving for the kill pulling back ever slightly my talons grasp what’s now still turning tail in victory with my catch, I’m homeward bound bringing to my treasured ones the sustenance I’ve found sated core’s possession as hunger pangs subside raises me toward heaven in sweetest peace I glide © September 15, 2000 do you know which creature I am |
