Time’s Spinning in the Sun
Virginia Salter

marshmallow topped hot chocolate
steams its way toward my toes
chilled edges of heels and soles
await impending warming throes

dew-coated blades of grass
drink in moisture for summer’s pass
readying for the passion of fall
when amber ends of rainbows call

moist air towels off in the sun
morning of day is number one
rubekia stretches toward the rays
loitering in late summer days

time seems spinning round and round
wondering to which season bound
bathe in warmth as season passes
prepare for cool, close the sashes

white shoes banished to the closet
make the autumn school deposit
don those jackets, sweaters, jeans
rehearse for those harvest scenes

short sleeves tossed in laundry bin
long sleeves pressed and well-tucked in
cinnamon sticks on horizon
ciders, too, be enterprisin’

before you go and say “Good-bye,”
eat a piece of summer pie
laced with cream and nanners merry
or cheesecake topped in sweet raspberry
