I Thought I Saw Him

I thought I saw him walking through the door
Just as he used to do each day at four
It must have been a memory
Of things I’ve seen before

I thought I heard his favorite music play
Just as it did as I awoke each day
And filled the house with joy
But now it’s gone away

I think I’ve known the best among all men
At least a man who loved me til the end
And I will never know
This kind of love again

I know that life has been so good to me
For I have found a peace to set me free
And when I rest my head
I simply let it be

I heard a little whisper in my ear
So faint a voice that I coild hardly hear
It said,"I love you Grandma"
Nothing is more dear

The greatest of the joys I’ve ever known
Are flowers from the seeds that we have sewn
And now they’re blossoming
So delicately grown

I thought I heard him coming through the door
And slowly walk across the kitchen floor
You walk just like your father, son
I could not ask for more

And this is where the legacy and the most wonderful "tangible" dreams will always shine.  Teary eyed but smiling real big in this one my friend.

Lizzie you touch me so deeply with this poem of heart and grace ...
there are rare loves ... rare gifts we are given that teach us the kind of peace you wrote of in the above verses ...

"For I have found a peace to set me free"

this kind of peace comes from loving a butterfly *smile*

add my name to the list who type thru tears and smiles after reading this promise kissed gift from you.

love ya sweet poet

Suthrn, THank you for the tears and smiles, mostly for the smiles

James, it's funny how you know who's coming through the dorr by their footsteps. I'm sure you miss your sons very much. I still have one son at home but miss all the footsteps that used to come in and out our door. Thank you

Janet Marie. I believe one of the most important things in life is to be at peace, and I am so fortunate to have that. Thank you for your remarks

Liz

Beautiful, beautiful, Liz!  Tender and poignant, this one brought me to tears.  The ending was superb.
My prayers remain with you and yours.

Elizabeth, you have such a strong and beautiful spirit, glowing through this poem. I bet he really did walk through the door that day, just to send you a little more love.
Beautiful.
Take care.

(tears coming down my cheeks) Oh Elizabeth, you have such a beautiful heart! Yes, your love for your brother shines like the heavens in this poem, and I believe he does come to visit you often to give you love and faith, for that's what he wants you to feel. You are blessed to be with us, and your brother was blessed to know you. (sniff) Excellent poem, thank you for sharing, my friend!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I don't think the 'missing' ever stops, just gets less painful in time. Great expression, Elizabeth.
