A Part of You in Me

You have been my friend
for thirty years,
and now you say it’s time
to go across time’s eternity,
lost except to memory
and withered sweet decay.

For a moment take me with you
to that place of grace,
part the curtain and let me see
your angel wings in motion glazed
with the laughter you have made.

The sound you breathe
is filled with finality
yet holds such tenderness
that I feel tears tremble.

I will keep your laugh
and hold it safe
in black mantilla lace
in a drawer that love opens.

Then your dark frailty
will not find weeping
as time’s precious minutes
in daring tick you out,
but will find a part of you
forever in the lasting of me.

This is such a sad and touching piece. You have written a beautiful tribute to your friend, and the best way to honor her is to take a part of her with you, as you have. Thanks for sharing.

(sigh) This was a little sad, but filled with sweetness and sincerity also! There will always be a piece of a past love in your heart, and the memories will always be with you. May true love flourish again for you! Thank you for sharing, my friend!

We all live to find a friend that would be able to hold a part of us after we leave this world and your friend and you both are blessed indeed to have found that. You already know that you shall have my prayers my friend and a shoulder should you ever need it. Beautiful tribute from your pen and it just goes to show the depth of heart.

My friend Pat has lung cancer and has been given about two weeks to live...she has been there for me for so long, our children grew up together, she was my matron of honor...Thank you for understanding the pain I feel...yet, she still makes me laugh...she is that way.

This one touched me deeply... I don't know how anyone could have better described a lifelong friendship... or the ache of one life ending entirely too soon. My thoughts are with you both.
