Wipe the smile from your face,
Watch the color drain from mine.
This is the season of discontent,
And I'm the only one unhappy.
You'll end up with the spiritual pie,
I'll end up going hungry as usual.
Such is the way of things--
Survival of the fittest,
Devil take the hindmost
And Nature is blood red in tooth;
Pip-pip cheerio and all that.
In the evolution of this relationship,
It's not the one adapted
But the one who never changed
That shall survive this catastrophe.
Never underestimate stubbornness, I guess.
I'm awash in a seascape,
Unaware of the dangers that lurk
Below the tranquil surface of cerulian.
I am in search of Eden--
A mythical place I can't enter
But strive for anyway,
Like the end of the rainbow just beyond reach.
The Wilderness is changed by my presence,
Thus I never truly enter it.
The nature of man is not natural at all,
And we wreck havoc on something we don't understand.

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

(deep sigh) Yes, the promisedland we all strive to find is fogged in under the smoke and ashes man has created in deforestation and destruction! If only the would see how much nature means to all of us, and be thankful for what they have. But yes, we should all strive to find our Eden, to be optimistic that there is that little spark still. Great poem! Thank you for sharing, my friend!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

As much as I'd like to see and enter Eden, I get the feeling that we've ruined this planet too much to see any earthly paradise.
