Shadows On The Page

Shadows dancing nightly on poet's page
Waltzing through on heels of false trust
Whispers of betrayal behind silent rage
Leave a pure read bleeding in the dust

Birth of hope given to the weakest of all
Quills of promise penning lover's taste
Left undaunted to the issues of the call
Another heart destined to fantasy waste

Dreams of happiness finding their way
Resting in the ink upon a page of blue
Boundary of vision from which to sway
Escaping the innocence of poetry's brew

Walls of sereneness lost in today's word
Echoes of distortion bellowing in the wind
Hollow phrases abandoned often unheard
Resting in the melodies as they descend

The key to tranquility rests for all to see
Times of passion and trials to torment
Just give me the freedom to read poetry
Sincere reflections will keep me content

Mark Bohannan

Mark--Poigniantly composed.  It asks to be read again, and goes into my library.  Excellent writing...

Mark--To fall into a poem is to be captured by something tenuous and changing...to read with purity, you must be sure where your own heart beats.

A wonderful sincere reflection here, Mark...well done!

Remarkable in thought and verse.

Mark my friend, truly wonderful writing utterly amazing. It's so delightful to see that truth and beauty can still exist in a world that so often seems contaminated by lies and lost hopes. And to see the skill that you wield your beauteous words and let them dance across your page fills me with joy and wonder. A true craftsman who can take a simple phrase and turn it into glittering starlight. Excellant work, it really is.
Take care

Great lines, Mark.
I'll tell you what--through all of the times that everything else had let me down, and it seemed that everything I said got all sorts of twisted, poetry was always a remaining sanity.  So, I can relate.  Excellent write, m'friend.

Shadows on a page, can be more than just a reflection. It's all in the minds eye.

ya know what...this poem is cooler than even I know....

"Leave a pure read bleeding in the dust"

very cool line cowboy....
I like this "cryptic" style from you..
always nice seeing a poet try new things.
impressive write MC ... and you know why I say so ...
some way cool phrases in this ...
and the last 2 lines say what true lovers of poetry all feel.

Mark, my friend, you've said it all in these last lines. What an intense and wonderful read this was. I hold true to the desire that what we read, write and respond within these walls only enhances the lives of those sharing their hearts amongst this poetic world ... the world outside can be harsh enough.  And now I echo you ...

"Just give me the freedom to read poetry

Best wishes,

Thank you all very much.  As Liz said, everyone will read it differently and that is of course the beauty of poetry and the purpose behind this one.  I truely appreciate every one of your responses from the bottom of my heart.  Thanks to you all once again.

Mark, yes I echo the others without it I am lost..I am lost.  But I disagree.  I believe that someday there will be NO shadows, only light.  And no one will be lost.  Everyone will be free to write in peace.
