There has been a buzzing
in my head,
like a radio static migraine
twisting through incoherent
stations from foreign nations.
There is a buzzing
here in my head.

Echoes carry daily
pendulum momentum,
squandering silence
in the mindless chattering
of a hollow cranium.
Its dull hum
shatters histories of literature;
every quiet musing erased
in alcoholic wash.
Rippling waves sand
Carotene brilliance
to the bluntest tool,
such idiocies can only be applauded.

Let the general sit upon the A-bomb,
Let the fools guard the kill switch.
This dystopia is for the making,
lettuce leaves skinned
to reveal a vessel with monkeys at the helm.
Caufield saw the morons like a cancer
spread, but it was in the mirror
that he first recognised the signs.
"In my youth I had potential,
intelligence and perception.
I vowed to stay strong but I fell folly
to the ways of the proletariat,
hope lies with the weakest masses
subdued to accept the crushing blows,
no rebellion forms upon their tongues,
free thought is a tragic slow death."

I am peeling potatoes
all shiny and perfect,
so smooth, like baby faces,
removing their eyes
as I throw them
into the boiling water.
I think I am a vegetable too.

There was once a buzzing
in my head, but not anymore
just silence, just simple silence.
======================================

"people writing songs that voices never neard
no one dared disturb the sound of silence"

"the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made"

Paul Simon- SOund of silence

O Brian O Brian...now I feel like doing a jig...a treat from you...and a Simon quote...happy happy me!...

ahem...

great write! Took me directly from the books of knowledge [while muttering about arcane things] to doing what needs to be done to keep my physical self going [food]....

Glad you found the time to post this! Thanks!

I am pondering on the simplicity of life as a vegetable........not too bad, until you hit the pot of boiling water. Enjoyed this poem immensely!!

karilea, I haave being listening to a lot of Paul lately, especially "The sound of Silence". Thanks for the wonderful reply.

Kit, thanks for the very kind words.

Sunny, don't know... can't say I would like to be a vegetable myself, though I guess if I had to be one I would be a sprout because no body eats them. Thanks for the very kind reply.

Sandra, thanks you have me smiling with your generous words.
