It Seems
Virginia Salter

it seems
I’ve developed a fondness
for well blackened flapjacks

at least
ever since I began
writing during breakfast
I’ve made quite a number of them

patted with butter
doused with ‘lite’ syrup
partnered with flavorful links
their pungent flavor
rocks my taste buds
they no longer end in the sink

when I’ve tried to withstand
the waiting
abiding at stove top, of range,
watching for pock marks in batter to come
their timing’s quite awkwardly strange

so ‘cajun’ they look
and ‘cajun’ they taste
to make them more palatable, friend
if you’d like to try them
I bake and not fry them
an invitation to you I, extend.

My sister used to live in Baton Rouge, and boy I remember visiting her and eating like this.  I enjoyed reading this.

"Every man dies.
Not every man truly lives."

Ah, yes, if only one could get fresh hot griddle cakes with the speed of the microwave.  Maybe then I'd not 'blacken' them.  So, did your sister get to visiting with you and forget to watch them?  Or had she developed a taste for such, as well?';-}

Virginia, you can't write while you are trying to cook and you can't cook while you are trying to write!! Who needs food, anyway?! hehehe   Cute poem!

Thank you all, but Denise, couldn't I really 'cook' with my writing?  Oh, I hope so, some day!

We'd make a great pair...I'm an expert at blackened hashbrowns...smoked everyone out of the house and I had them all to myself..*G*

I love the time
and in between
the calm inside me
in the space
where I can breathe...

I'll take the cajun flapjacks anyday.  This was a delight to read and don't ever doubt that you cook with your words because I have read some of yours that really turn up the level of intensity and heat up the pages.  Keep on writing and we will keep on devouring.

THANKS, Mark, you've made my day more delightful.  In fact, it's similar to the feeling I'm receiving from the sun bursting through the dripping sky outside as we speak!
