Perhaps I’ll  Love Again

I’m not content with loneliness
Perhaps I’ll love again
It matters not if I should fall
And loose it in the end

I used  to try to cling to winds
And hold a summer’s rain
The things that were the sweetest
Were the cause of greatest pain

On darkest days the wind blew on
And left me with no friend
I looked toward those of family
To see just who I am

For they were true survivors
Of the hate and war and fear
And separation’s paper line
On Ellis Island’s pier

My heritage was love and strength
But still I had to grow
And life has changed the one they raised
To someone they didn’t know

For I have learned to lose and win
By both I have been swept
Winning gives the joys of life
And losing gives life depth

I never caught a summer breeze
Nor held an ocean wave
I’m happy with the love I’ve had
And all the love I gave

I’m not content with loneliness
I hope that you will stay
But if you don’t , I’ll carry on
Into another day

Liz, if we leave ourselves open to love, love will walk in. It doesn't, and shouldn't replace the love we had, rather it should add to rest of our life.  God Bless and good luck my friend.

This moved me deeply, I can relate. Well penned, great flow and sadly expressed to perfection, the second verse is my favourite. Hugs to you in your time of sorrow, I do hope that you will love again as you so deserve

Take care,
Melissa

I think you should remove the word 'perhaps' from this Liz. It's wonderful, simply wonderful.

I had to pause and catch my breath - regain my composure - you can tug a heartstring like no one else I know -
I'd like to say this as it is the only evidence I have: At my church I  see and have become friends with many widows all recent. -
Two - Of all of them - the ones I would most likely approach were I not happily married - have each found someone to marry - and by all accounts are now happily remarried.
If what I read is any indication of the person you are and I'm convinced it is - you WILL love again - AND you will be happy. and as J said - 'twill take nothing from the past.

Liz--Because you leave your heart open when doors behind you close...love will enter.  Your poem is wonderful, as are you, my friend!
