The Beam Pulses, but Not for Me
Virginia Salter

I reach for the beam
of your guidance
seeking your light
with my all that I am.

Yet it seems, I’m peering blindly
between the pulses
of your glowing,
oh, how do I find who I am?

How do I adjust my rhythm
to fit with the love that you give?
How do I amend the steps that I take
in the hours and days that I live?

I go through the actions to open my eyes,
yet closed tightly is what they do seem.
The pulse of the darkness fits with my sighs;
how might I end this bad dream?

I sense the rocks, all jagged and black,
lurking at the edge of this sea.
What can I do to grasp fast your way;
what manner will save what is me?

The boards of my ship seem seeking disaster;
destruction seems fervent their goal,
as torrents of troubles and ills lash at me
and I’m running aground on the shoal.

There seems nothing left but to give all I am
to the wind and the waves in their power.
Then in prayer commit myself to your spirit
conceding my hand at this hour.

VAS,
Oh, such guilt, woe and submission!
Disaster lurks!
Was this really a dream?

No, totally contrived.  I was heading home and wanted to write about coming in on the beam of a lighthouse.  This poem is what transpired.  Go figure. There's probably something psychologoical in it, huh. ;O}

Light has no hands to hold but people do...  be filled with the Light so you can have hands to hold on to.  Love,  Bob <><

Yep, that's right and amen.  I hope you saw my response to Krawdad, too.
I'm wondering, do you like lighthouses and/or do you work in one?  My daughter and I caught the bug badly in Fall of 98 and we spend all opportunities to visit lighthouses on the west coast.

Nope, it's just a statement of my faith though I did live near Monterey for over 30 years and one of my favorite drives was past the lighthouse located off Lover's Point.

The Lighthouse

Leading the lost ones unto His Light,
God shines His beacon throughout the night.

God's Spirit is calling to the drowning soul,
"Come to my Lighthouse and be made whole."

From life's jagged rocks and crashing wave,
God's grace searches the deep to save.

While the sea obeys His every command,
The Lighthouse reaches a helping hand.

Out of the darkness into the Light,
The lost ones are saved from endless flight.

As we pray and care for our neighborhood,
We'll share the gospel of God's good.

With joy in their hearts and peace of mind,
Eternal salvation the lost will find.

As many become houses of Light,
The kingdom of God will grow evermore bright.

(Matthew 5:16)

Some days this is exactly how I feel.
I know of only one light that shines bright enough to pull me out of the dark clutches that threaten to swallow at times...
Thank God I can look up at those times.
Great poetry writing!

Virginia...this was wonderfully presented and you have taken this thought of yours and turned it into an amazingly powerful piece.  I am glad that I caught this one tonight.  Go check in SJ for something you might enjoy.
