Child of My Dreams

Although I'm not allowed to grieve,
For children I have not conceived;
I wonder if you'll ever know,
This loss of life I cannot show.

As aging takes it's final toll,
I mourn a loss from deep my soul;
She hovers there, amidst my thoughts,
This little child I loved and lost.

Although she comes to me in dreams,
As if in future sight foreseen;
In times of truth, I realize,
That I shall never see her eyes.

Although she never graced my arms,
I yearn for her unknowing charms;
In times of want, I wish her here,
Yet silence follows muted tears.

Although she never had a name,
Somehow her presence still remains;
In times of trial, I wonder why,
We never met ... and softly sigh.

'Twas just a dream that never was,
An empty vessel filled with love;
In times of need, I reach for her,
And yet, alas, 'tis vacant air.

No, I shall never know her name,
And yet, it tugs my heart the same;
For never was it meant to be,
And thus, I mourn this fantasy.

Kit, this is a thought that only a woman could conceive.

You still feel the love and loss, so something was conceived.

This is a poignant and touching poem.

Kit,
So beautifully written and poignant is this portrait of a mother's love. Only one who has felt this love and sorrow could express it so magnificently.

What a wonderful poem!
Speaking of children how did your hunt go my friend?
I bet it was a lot of fun!

Evening Kit,

I am very glad that I stopped by to read this writing you have done. I was touched by it, as it came to me with tenderness. Thanks for sharing this.

~Stan: Thank you for these lovely words Stan ... I very much appreciated your thoughts.

~Elizabeth:  Thank you for this sweet and understanding response Liz ... and thank you for being "you" dear friend.

~Balladeer:  Always the most wonderful comments Michael, thank you. Whenever you're game my friend, just say the word, and I'm up for another duet with the "real" master!

~Elizabeth:  You've summed it up perfectly Elizabeth ... although I thought I'd dealt with it many years ago, it comes to the surface once in a while, thank you for understanding.

~Insect: Hi Insect, thank you for the kind words, and yes ... this year's Christmas Hunt was a smashing success for my nephews and niece. Instead of a hunt though, I decided on a take-off of "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire". It took over an hour, 7 family oriented questions for all 4 (all with 4 possible answers, each getting harder), and it was an absolute hoot. We had downloaded all the music and out-takes from the real show, and dubbed in a bunch of funny changes, played the music for each question, had the blue strobe light going each time, and the kids played it to the hilt, a bunch of hams they are ... polling the audience (the rest of the family), taking the 50/50 and calling a friend. It was fantastic! I've saved your ideas too ... I'm starting to work on next year already, they are my "surrogate kids" and I love them so very much!

~Rex:  There is no need to say more Rex, just knowing you were touched by it and stopped by is all I need, thank you!

~Bill: You're so very welcome Bill, and thank you for feeling the tenderness, I'm very grateful.

Much appreciation to all from a nearing 40, mid-life crisis, trying to think it through poet (and ps ... I'll be OK ... just needed to get this one out of my system),
/Kit

Kit, this was so well crafted and poignant...It made me cry. My sister lost a little girl and every so often it haunts her.

~Kit~

Powerful flow and images, a bittersweet piece to read, so haunting and deeply moving. My friends lost a baby a year ago and this reminded me of them and yet it also reminds me of an older relative or friends of my mother who never married, who never had children, and I can tell that they live with that void of never having a child of their own.  There are no words to express how much this made me think of others or how much it touched me

Take care,
Melissa

Dear Kit~
Well my friend you gave me the kick up the but I needed, I sometimes dwell on the fact that I could only have one child and yet there are those who cannot have any, I am truly blessed.

And every time the hurt scratches to the surface, every breath screams a "why" that's never answered.

I almost didn't open this because I'm at work... but I did, and got caught crying at my desk. You wrote my heart with this one, Kit.

This is a very touching poem, and obviously very personal. I just know that the child in question would be proud to have these words written about her, and by such an amazingly feeling person. Stay happy! Much love and hugs to you,

Kit,

This one tugged at my heart strings tonight.  You said it all very well.  I am touched by your words.  Some day you will meet her in heaven and finally know each other.  Wonderful expression.

I knew years of longing to conceive before I did.  I WELL remember those years, during which I imagined what my child would look like, be like, what we would do together.  I wrote many mournful poems about the child who hadn't been yet, but whom I loved so dearly, even so.

My heart goes out to you for that emptiness and longing - the love - all that love -

Tenderly and beautifully written.

That was a beautifully written poem. Losing someone is hard and we can't just push them into the back of our mind and forget all about them. Let their legacy live on. Remember them, even if its only in your dreams. Thanks for the poem.

KIT, my tears trickle upon keyboard as I read your poem...
I wish sometimes that we could know the answers or at least be given a feasible reason to a why...
Yet sometimes we might be given a reason and our hearts struggle to understand it and yet the hurt will remain deep inside...
