*Thanks to Marsha for the inspiration*

standing around the ashes
    they mourn her loss
"she tried too hard" they say
    "she felt too much"
        "she just wasn't the same after. . . "
            after what?
after the loss of a love she never had?
after the loss of a life she never wanted?
after the loss of a spirit she never knew?
            after what?
they're not sure
but they still mourn her loss
I do not
I knew that she had to burn
that this trial by fire was something
            she had to endure
and that when the trial was over
            there would only
                              be
                             ashes
            and now?
now, I make my way through the mourners
and, looking into the ashes, I shout one word. . .
                                                ARISE!
and they all look at me like I'm a madman
                "fool!" they shout
"she cannot arise, she is gone, can't you see?"
I do not hear them, I shout the word again. . .
                                                ARISE!
                "no!" she screams
                        and they turn in horror
"I cannot, I will not, there is nothing for me
                            to rise to"
"leave me here, for here among the ashes is
                            where I belong"
they have a hold of me now, they're trying to drag me out
but I will not go, I know you're there still among
                                                            the
                                                           ashes
I pull free from them, and arms outstretched, I scream
                                                ARISE!!!!

Arise Sister Phoenix, bird of death, to new birth
Arise, and walk once again here on this earth
Through the trial of fire your heart has come
To walk proud again in the light of the sun

Arise Sister Phoenix, bird of death, to new life
Arise heart of strength forged by strife
Sing your song with strong new voice once again
With words you've not sung since way back when

Arise Sister Phoenix, bird of death, to new love
Arise spirit of life with the angels above
Open your wings of life strong and proud
Fly to your new life, away from the crowd

and with my words, the ashes crackled
                                the flames grew
                                the smoke flowed
and out of the ashes, she emerged
the power of love and light flowing through her body
they all wept, some out of joy
for they knew they would follow
and that there was hope for them
                               some out of sorrow
for they knew they would be lost
and that there was no hope for them
and you Sister Phoenix?
you opened your wings proud and strong
screaming your name to the heavens
proclaiming your life to the stars

and we watched
and we wept
and we smiled
                        fly on Sister Phoenix,
                        fly on and be strong
                        live,
                                love,
                                        be. . .

Sven love, OH WOW, yours is truly truly wonderful. This sister of the phoenix is getting ready to arise too. Dear heart this is truly awesome, and if the little wretches I've got turning out superlatives would only work harder, I could give you loads, but since they are lazy I can't.
How about my old and truly meant beautiful love, it really is too.
Take care love and this goes into my libriary and on the wall. Watch out world the Phoenixes are coming back.
                 Love
                    Mushy
              Fly high Fly free
              Fly with Me!

Take back the hope you gave,- I claim

As always, I knew this poem would be great because it came from you, Sven.....and as always, you surprised me with an extra touch.....the format reminds me of the profile of my symbol of strength, the Phoenix...
Beautiful write, and beautiful artistry....

VAS, thank you. . .

Marsha, thank you love for the idea. . . I thought about what would happen if the phoenix didn't want to come, or what if she just was unsure. . . that it takes a little more than the Phoenix own power. . . sometimes, they're human too. . .    Thank you again love, and I'm glad that you like it. . .

James, thank you my friend. . .

Sunny, that you equate my name with great writing leaves me stunned. . . thank you my friend, and I'm glad that you enjoyed. . .

Sy, thank you so much Sir. . . I am indeed humbled. . .

Temptress, yes, people who inspire us are the greatest of gifts. . .

Sunshine. . . if you keep that up, you're going to make me think that I'm good at this!     thank you my friend. . .

tracie, indeed I was my friend. . . thank you. . .

hoot_owl, thank you my friend. . .

Melissa, as do you my friend. . . thank you for reading. . .

Kethry, Marsha's idea was already gold. . . I just reset the jewel. . . thank you. . .

SVEN, you have penned a spectacular and intense poem here, one that filled me with such energy as I read thru it...
I am also elated that I didn't get to miss this on first round...
I'm sooooo impressed and the smile on my face right now mirrors the delight I received upon reading this tonite...
Thank you

Sven only you could call the Sister Phoenix up from the burning ashes.
You have the ability to make one believe
that anything is possible.
