The Bridge

Behind the village clapboard row
Of quaint old houses now restored
A path leads down where waters flow
And to a bridge of creaky board

The stream is wicked as it moves
Between huge boulders smoothed by time
It churns and bubbles through the grooves
A mesmerizing gushing brine

All who venture on the bridge
Stand endlessly in wondrous shock
Of natures power through the ridge
Surging down through granite rock

A spectacle so slowly wrought
Carved though a million years of wear
And sound to deafen any thought
For those who walk the planks of dare

How many times since childhood days
I’ve ventured down to French Creek ridge
And always I am so amazed
How fast life flows beneath the bridge

Elizabeth... this is superb, as always. *S* It reminds me so much of a bridge near my grandmother's house... and the incessant cry of "stay away from that bridge!" that followed every kid trying to escape the front porch gossip session. *S* We didn't listen, of course... the bridge held more fascination than threats from idle parents could conquer. But if they stood up to follow... now THAT was another story! LOL

superb! Elizabeth, as are all your posts.  A bridge is so many things and you've depicted a wonderful aspect of it.  There's something, too, how a bridge between things or people can make everything move more smoothly.  Speed of life happens then, as well, because obstacles are overcome.

I find this profound.  We all have a bridge that helps us pass over troubled waters.

"for those who walk the planks of dare". . . "how fast life flows beneath the bridge". . .

simple statements birthing a universe of reflective thought.  this compliments the canvas nicely.
