Tonight? I am
without form
I am Spartacus--
reborn...
a sampling
of your shadow self..
a lilting flute
of playful elf...
I am Janus
of two faces
the black-the white
of chessboard spaces--
I am all
and I am naught
I feel free
as I am caught
with the steel trap on my shin-
I chew my leg be rid of him.
I howl a song of time's forlorn...
I am Spartacus...reborn...

and I will bite my teeth to bits...
if only I be done with it...
Hang me from my heart in tether?
I swear I'll live like that forever
and but my children would I mourn...
I am Spartacus...reborn.

And should ye think
I be done in?
Ask this one, that,
and then ask him...
each will answer you
as thus...
In righteousness,
I'm Spartacus.

WHatever form you take one thing remains the same, your shining talent at poetry. A gladitor and poet in one, you are my kind of woman.

I don't recall enough about Spartacus or Janus to get the full meaning here, but I absolutely love the flow and feel of this piece.  When I think of Spartacus, chariot races and battles come to mind.  Pretty limited recollection, eh?

You've woven the flavor of this one excellently, though.

I don't think I would be so hard to beat
I'm not so strong as thee
I would be just the can that held Popeye's spinach

I am Spartacus reborn...the battler, the winner, the warrior, the  undefeated yet crying man... oh how I love this poem and the thoughts it conveys.

you know, i hate to sound like the young'in 'round here, but i was thinking of the drum and piano duet by Del Paxton and Guy Patterson. (that thing you do!)
"what do call that?"
"i am Spartacus."

actually, it made sense. jazz is wonderful like that. it's free.
right spratacus?
