I was asked if I wrote "heartache" poems.  I do, but not in a while...kind of been stuck on seeing how many times I can write on the "romantic" side of the heart without sounding too trite from piece to piece...(if I do please tell me and I'll stop).  Anyway, since I don't have anything rushing to the keyboard on the "heartache" side at the moment, I submit these older ones as a few of my favorites in that genre.

Rain

Rain.
God-forsaken,
bleak,
bleary,
rain,
befogging the air
as thoughts of you
befog my mind.
Harder it comes,
wind-driven,
thick,
viscous drops,
splattering against my face,
stinging me with their insolent,
uncaring,
selfish manner,
much as you,
in your self-contained,
self-preserving,
self-centered world,
denies all but that
which is an achievement for self;
denies me,
after my being fulfilled your need;
denies that which I gave freely,
driving it pain-riddled
into the depths of my soul.

Something To Believe

I prayed last night,
but the tears wouldn't come.
Just the anguish,
the dying,
and still…I couldn't cry.
I felt so hurt,
so far away,
so alone,
so bad.
I felt,
oh God,
let me cry.
But the tears wouldn't come.
I wanted to pack my bags,
load up my car,
and run,
and run some more,
till I came to the end,
to a wall that wouldn't fall,
to a place that wouldn't leave,
to a something that would always be.
I wanted to live.
I wanted to cry.
Oh God, I wanted to cry,
yet my eyes stayed dry.
If ever I was given a task,
something to believe,
something to hold,
something to have…
oh my,
oh my,
God,
why?

-----------------

Thoughts Of You

Thoughts of you
came to mind
as I walked down the street
last night,
going nowhere,
doing nothing,
wanting only to have you close.
I couldn't help but think
of the fun we'd had,
the quiet moments,
the private jokes…
and I smiled with the memory.
For uncountable days,
time has practically stood still,
because I don't hear from you,
I don't see you,
I hardly know you anymore.
And to think…
my life took on new meaning
because of you.
And now,
now I have to learn to live without you.

--------------

...and if you've managed to stick with it this far,
just one more...

Touch Me, Just Touch Me

You know it's gone,
don't you?
You know you could have gone
all my life
without saying that.
Of all things that could have passed your lips,
you chose to say what I least wanted to hear.
I thought with you it would be different.
You'd understand.
That you,
of all people,
would know such an explanation
was superfluous.
I thought you understood.
I thought you knew.
And yet,
I can blame only myself
for not saying,
in so many words,
the things that were unnecessary.
But if I had done that,
it would be the same as now.
In the way I needed you most,
in the only way you could have,
you failed me.
Or I failed me.
Or something.
I'm sorry,
and I'm tired,
so very,
very,
tired.
Forgive me my shortcomings,
and try to remember me with half the warmth
by which I remember you.
Please touch me…
Just touch me…
Oh God,
I'm gone again.

JWesley~
Man !  When you 'ache' you do it in volumes !
These are all full of pain -
but my personal favorite is -
Something To Believe

Now that hurts.
*Hugs* for the writes and,
as always, looking forward to more from you.

Wow...put those and a little country music together and it'd make for a most depressing night   Seriously, your pain in these piece was quite evident and at times almost overwhelming. My personl favorite was "Thoughts Of You" It's so hard to learn to live without someone sometimes and those thoughts of things said and did can often haunt both our dreams and our waking hours.
Here's a hug, just because after reading those if you don't need one, I sure do

Jimmy,
"ouch!" these bite with a heartfelt passion. I could particularly relate to Touch Me.

yes you do (write heartache) and you ache with the best of them ...
much sincere emotion expressed with depth JW
All of them spoke to me for different reasons
but I think Believe and Touch did so the most.
well written showcase of your work.
take care poet sir

POwerful writing here james, these words come from deep with as do your romantic poems, once the poems have feeling and passion they will not be trite, and there is no fear of your writing lacking emotion.

Poet deVine:Well, they were written in same basic time frame when a particularly close friend of mine (girl) was going through a difficult time with her soon to be ex. We'd talk for hours and these developed from her emotions. Mine, too, I guess, since I definitely felt her pain.   j.
Charisma:  Thanks - and I'll take hugs anyway I can get them.  I'm greedy that way.  j.

Hoot: Could probably do some serious beer drinking to county music and these...

Kethry: Thank you, me friend, and thanks for the hug...wow, gonna have to write some more in this venue if I keep getting all these hugs!

And thank you JM...I always value your comments.

Brian...I really appreciate the vote of confidence. Like all on Passions...I try.
