has anyone else asked this question?

In the clutches of hawkes,
they soar on imagined wings
where once they pecked at my crumbs.
Where once I held out a steadying arm
and laid down blankets for their fall,
that they are saved from halting
That they avoid  reduction
to a bruised and broken crawl.
I thumbed away those tears
and stilled those vibrating shoulders
that are now so proudly thrown back
in defiance of fortune, of lifes' slips
I warmed those hands with mine
and nodded grimly,
I dried those rainsoaked wings
and in time flung open the cage door.
I stood with open palms
and calmed the stormy seas.
I built you up and set you free
and now in the clutches of hawkes,
soaring on imagined wings
are you being carried away from me?

quite possibly. . .it's sad when we help other people. . . and they fly away. . . but that is the way of those that are healers. . .

excellent poem. . .
