Love in the bayou

he brought to me a cypress knee
others would think, it's not much
when he brought satsumas & mirlitons
i felt his loving touch

he showed to me a dog of blue
a dog with yellow eyes
then down the river walk
to see the Mississippi rise

through the french market
our fingers are entwined
my heart is all a flutter
proud and thankful he is mine

what a romantic place this is to be
of voo doo queens and Magazine
where mardi gras is the true party
drink my coffee with beigets and pralines

one day in the car it began to rain
the city soon became a flood
we parked upon the common ground
and wadded through the mud

a place to eat and dry out feet
soon became our plight
feasting on oysters, boudin and hurricanes
zydeco played us through the night

i listen silently as he speaks
see my future through his eyes
just as the baby in the king cake
he is- the true surprise

he talks to me of things to be
jazz fest, bon fires, and rodeos at prison
still reminiscing of pontchartrain beach
he is the true gift given

romance blooms in the roux of the bayou
a spicy place and time
as i take all the excitement in
i'm glad this turn is mine

SlickLady~
Very nicely done, indeed.
Oh, the 'baby in the King cake' touches the nostalgia in me.
I still have my beads and the baby.

Sounds like a memorable moment for you too.
