We Could've Made It Anyway

You always used to tease me and place temptation in my way
Your heart called to me and begged me to come out and play
Where did I go wrong, did I surrender far too quickly for you
And why if you didn't mean it, tell me that your love was true
I just don't understand the rules of this pain filled lying game
And even though my heart is crying she calls for you the same
No butterfly light footsteps across this my bleeding crushed heart
But your hob nailed boots are hurting and this is just the start

I wonder if when you first summoned I was too free with my soul
But now she's fled for her saftey and where she was there's a hole
I'm bloodied and I'm bowed and crushed with the pain of it all
But I will rise up again, my heart will once more hear loves call
For without hope, without dreams I would give it all up and flee
So I'll chase my dreams and watch hope returning again for me
And I will survive and grow strong, until I like the phoenix rise
From the flames of hearts pain I will be the wonder of my eyes

I'll not moan and wail for this is a valuable lesson you've taught
Next time I'll make it harder for my fragile heart to be caught
And when I offer my all to the next heart that beckons me on
I'll make sure first that we both want to sing the self-same song
The lyrics mean the same and the harmony is one we can sing
I don't ask for much just some happiness into my soul to bring
No impossible goals, no high ambitions to be famous and great
I don't even ask for love to be handed to me on a silver plate

A part of me will forever hear your voice within my sore heart
But perhaps it was inevitable that we should eventually part
For this fire burnt so hot, its incandescence put the stars to shame
Maybe it would have burnt itself out flickering just the same
And maybe you've called time to save yourself the terrible pain
Or maybe you're frightened of being hurt yourself all over again
All I say, as I sit here and watch my world turns back to its grey
Is if only you'd had faith in my heart we could've made it anyway

Marsha

Oh, Marsha, I hope this isn't autobiographical, but it sure sounds like it is. This was a beautiful rendition of the pain of a relationship gone wrong.  Take care. May you find all the things you deserve in the new year.

Marsha you have covered every possibility...I know the pain when you want it to work so bad and it goes bad...and you find the more you gave the more you hurt...and I suppose we do learn hard lessons and give more carefully...James

Mark my friend, thank you although you'll never convince me. I simply cannot see that there's been any change, although I know there's a difference because everything changes. It's a part of it's natural progression, but I'll take your word for it.
Oh and I'm sorry I'm just a little weary from New Years celebrations, so my mind never the sharpest of tools, seems to be running in a slower gear than normal, which is why I submitted after Sven instead of continuing. Thank you again

LL, oh love, how I feel for you, I'm sorry for the tears. But there will be a brighter future, you know how I feel about destiny, somewhere somehow all those who live in need or seek will be given what they need or find what they seek.
Take care and may you find it and hold it true

Sandra love, yes it is and but I look to the future, it has possibilities. I've sat in the vale of tears and heartache, love isn't there, she is sitting in the open awaiting me. So I go in search of her.

P T love, where would I be without you, don't answer that, I know.   You know I thank you muchly, although I know absolutely nothing about putting this to music kid, I wouldn't even know where to start. So if you want to love, be my guest.   I'd be really honoured.
You and Kari must have slipped in while I was typing the replies, very slowly I must admit. And I had an E mail I just had to return love. Sorry neither of you are an after thought I assure you
Take care love

I feel so bad for the pain you feel. It touches my heart deeply, for I have been there, and I know how much it tears at your soul.
In time you move on but you never, ever forget.
Here's wishing you a wonderful new year filled to the brim with happiness.
Hugs,Deb
