Last night I watched a rerun of an old movie: "Starting Over" featuring Burt Reynolds and Jill Clayburgh. I loved it the 1st time I saw it back in 60's although my wife was less enthusiastic. While humorous the story was semi-serious. Burt, is divorced, Jill an unmarried mid 30's lady. I'll say no more except that their 1st intimacy is couched in terms unacceptable in 'open'. Thus the inspiration for this piece.

Like 'I love you' and 'goodbye',
'I want you'
Can be taken many ways:
I want you to go out with me
I want you for my spouse
I want you
(As spoken by Uncle Sam in WWII posters)

So she says,
You could have personalized it:
"I want you Marilyn"

(How the relationship
survives the picture
is part of its charm)

Sometimes it's all you need to say
Sometimes it's not enough
Sometimes it comes from just a look
Or touch

I love the human experience
I love the interaction
How we learn from one another
And sometimes don't

I remember how it terrified
As a teen and with first courting
The want was near unbearable
The fear was even worse

Now segue forward through divorce
Easy habit behind you
Decades of 'being true'
Now you're a piece of meat

Now fear is coupled with uncertainty
What do I want?
What does she want?
What do I say?

I want you

Great souls have wills; feeble ones have only wishes.

Oh the vision of Uncle Sam's finger pointing....well done!  I so enjoy watching a movie or reading a book and bringing the inspiration to the boards, just like this!  Well done Bill!

Yes those simple words can be very complex in their use as you have pointed out and now I am thinking that these are the exact words I need to use in a card to a certain someone.  Superb write my friend.

Thank you all for your replies - and God willing I'll keep writing   -
You'd all please me even more - if you manage to see this old movie - see if you find value, love and smiles as I did

Paula -
It means different things at different times - both to the one speaking and to the one hearing - We're blessed if we percieve correctly - Thank you
