Bed of Lavender

If lavender can put the eye to rest
To dream if only dreams of whispering wind
I’ll stroke the blossom essence on my chest
And feel the joy of sleep upon my skin

If eucalyptus helps the soul to breath
To fill me with content at eventide
I’ll find an aromatic wick and leave
A Eucalyptus candle by my side

If swag of juniper brings love to me
And laurel, inspiration to the mind
The purple loosestrife, peace and harmony
And marigold to see where I was blind

Please sprinkle lavender upon my bed
Fetch a swag of juniper for me
Let sweet slumber fall upon my head
And dream with me a dreamer’s fantasy

Then make a potpourri of lover’s herb
And wrap me in the petals of the brew
Embrace my heart and nothing will disturb
The ecstasy, the essence that is you

Elizabeth Santos

Absolutely beautiful Liz!  You've painted these words so beautifully and vividly, that I can almost inhale the aroma through the screen. What a lovely and relaxing mood you've set with this piece ... loved it my friend!

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Liz this is enchanting and wonderful ...
I love the premise of this and the use of floral metaphor...
how creative and lovely are your comparisons.

"And marigold to see where I was blind"

what a cool line that is...tho YOUR poetic eyes are never blind
this so beautiful ... you have painted us a garden of Eden with your pets pen.
wonderful writing Lizzie

Thank you all for your comments. They are truly warming. And somehow Janet Marie came up with a garden of essence to compliment the poem. How lovely
THank you

I really should know by now that opening one of your poems will leave me stunned... I guess I'm just amazed that you keep getting better and better when you were so excellent to begin with! *S*

SEA, Thank you, I'm glad you liked the poem.
Though the inspiration for this poem was not romantic. I have trouble going to sleep and my sister suggested sprinkling lavender on the sheets. Then my niece gave me a eucalyptus scented candle for Christmas. She said it would help my asthma. So you see,
it's just a poem.

Bill, Thank you for your comments. The lover's potpourri is in your heart.
You've already got the ingredients

Liz
