NEON

I hear my footsteps echo
Heel against asphalt, thud,
I'm sure I walk the broken lines
But there are no lights to see or care.

This road I've been on, since
Since I don't know when, really
Months, maybe years.. Forever
What did the sign say… destiny lane?

It's always been dark, empty
But not alone, I'm sure, I'm sure..
I feel them, like me travelling
Tenebrous, lonely souls, eternal

It's not a graveyard, I'm sure of it
I'm alive, for I breathe still…. If
If that’s what I still call life,
Epitaph, of the lost lamb, alone.

Still I walk.. Towards, a dream.. for
Maybe just for a glimpse, of the light
The light of a smile, a neon smile
The one that's seen through the darkness…

But all I hear is sounds, tormented
Hearts in the abyss, whispers of pain
Groping in this naked ink, this tar
Dazed and desperate, for any… love.

I'm not like them, I have hope
I believe in possibilities,
And not just any love will do
A bright neon smile… and hope.

This street is still black
Save for one glimmer ahead
Although I can't see beyond it.
This little lighted tree will do,

For now.

I've always said its those quiet ones ya gotta watch out for...

Spoken like a true Irishman.  There is always hope in the heart of the Irish and you they know how to find it.  Your light is there my friend, you just need to travel that road to get there so that the appreciation will never escape your thoughts.  That is called doing it right and not forcing things. Wonderful read.

Thanks mark for the reply..... I must say though that my poetry is not always about me. I don't travel on this dark road, mine is filled with lights..

Only the romantic stuff is all true...

Little different for you James.  Not necessarily in style but in the colour usage perhaps.  Very nice write as always.
