Oh, Yaquina Light
Virginia Salter

tall, slender pinnacle
rises to clouds
of crimson, gray, blue
beyond a century of dreams

what have you seen
oh, Yaquina,
who have you guided on their way
how you have blessed lives
as you’ve graced this day

help me embrace
your awesome beauty
your gladsome duty
your service on this earthly plane

as alabaster,
you glisten in the sun
oh, mighty stalwart,
beacon of safety,
greeter of the shore

your beautiful light
a heartbeat
welcoming the traveler
where you stand

*applauding*

This is wonderful VAS!!!  I love this. . .

I have a fascination with lighthouses, and you've captured this one wonderfully. . .

Far too wonderful to be on PAGE 3!!!!

VAS~
Indeed this is so lovely.
Beautifully written.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse
is Oregon's tallest lighthouse.
It was built August 20, 1873

You certainly wrote a beauty of a poem
to tell the story of the lights.
Thank you so much for sharing this.

Thank you, thank you all!  And Marge, thanks for putting the photo on.  IF I ever get my scanner re-installed, I can post photos again, too.  I only took 14 of Yaquina Head Light when we visited in October.  Well, it was sunset, too.  I had to take a lot to try to get the perfect shot. ;o}
