A friend I lost
(Lancelot {Bilal}© 2000)

Tall and handsome
Had half a dozen kids

All were very happy
And all were contend

He liked to help others
He satisfied all  poor

He had a clean mind and soul
He loved peace and friendship

All o' sudden he started to lose weight
And we asked him to get checked up

And it turned out to be a cancer
And it sent my brain out flyin'

He spent big money on cures
But nothing better and all got worse

During his sickness, he tried to be fair
He loved more, helped more & gave more care

Cuz he knew he's 'bout to die
& wanted lots of rewards in sky

Then one day I heard that he's dead
It felt like somebody blew my head

His whole life flashed before MY eyes
Since we first met till the day he died

I saw him go several feet under ground
Where his body lay, till judgement day

His son was cryin' and wife was hysterical
He was gone but the world was typical

He neither saw his son graduate
Nor his little daughter's first steps

Never got into his completed mansion
Never got to read the Eid greeting card

Cuz couple o' days before Eid he died
And never to anybody had he lied

Sometimes I think my friend is here
But then I know he's gone forever!

I wrote this poem in remembrance of a good friend, who loved his family, friends and almost everybody around him. he was energetic and helpful but then he left...forever. Sometimes I wonder why good people have to leave early and why do they have to stay in our hearts for a long time, cuz longer they are in there, longer we feel their physical absence-he was 45.

Bilal, this is so very sad. I am sorry for your loss.

How sad, and what a nice tribute. I'm new here too, and I also came to express my feelings for a friend who is still with me, but for how long, we dont know - I share your loss, even though I still have my friend, because my mind I think is preparing me for the inevitable, when he will no longer be here. My heart goes out to you.
