In the shadow of an angel
i did not have a chance
i loved you with all my heart
but you only desired the romance

when you spoke of her
my heart went out to you
teardrops flowed with yours
a winding river..blue

why did you hurt me?
when i was so good to you
you flutter from woman to woman
searching free as a dove
In the shadow of an angel
your wife..an angel above

you try so hard to replace her
yes..you have found another
young as she was then
but she is just another woman
soon she will be just another friend

she is in the shadow of an angel
like i was back then

*sigh* I know from experience you cannot compete with a angel. This poem is filled with your pain. My heart goes out to you. Much love to you from me.

A story too often repeated in this society.  Very sad.

Victoria, this is superb and you've written this so well. Far too difficult to compete with a memory, and sometimes I wonder is it actually worth it. Similar situation happened to one of my sisters, except she married him, and it all fell apart less than three months later. Really excellant writing from you.
Take care

Victoria

This is so true. The task of competing with someone not there anymore is an impossible one.
Thank you for a poem to make us think a little further...
