Who’s In Charge?

If I had a dime for all
the hurt I’ve been given
I tell ya somethin’ honey
I’d be comfortably livin’
Driving a Mercedes and
living in a fancy hi-rise
(Big Condo in the sky)

But down here in the streets
it’s a whole different story
Living through the day is
your source of pride and glory
Taking all the handouts but
avoiding all the corporate lies
(so someone tell me why?)

We’re holding up the world
for $5.15 an hour
Yet the people who do nothing
are the ones that are in power
The country’s in recession
and they’re livin’ it large
I think it’s time they put
somebody else in charge
Yeah, it’s about time they put
us in charge!

We’re sending arms to Israel
We’re beating up Iraq
We’re too busy making weapons
thinkin’ “who we gonna attack?”
We’re killin’ people elsewhere
while over here, so many more die
(Better open up your eyes)

AIDS, rape and homicide
Our kids are selling crack
And when we reach with open arms
you always turn your back
Our country’s goin’ down the toilet
so bend over and kiss you’re a$s goodbye
(And don’t look so surprised)

You have said it all. I hope that soon they
will start taking care of those here at home.

inot2B,
It amazes me sometimes that we live in a country that can do so many wonderful things for people who need help in other nations, yet we can't seem to correct our own problems.

Startime,
Thank You! Although I have no intention of getting up on my soapbox on a regular basis to rail at the world, I hope that people start to listen too.

Sven,
Thanks for the compliment. I wish there were more people standing up for what needs to be changed.

Paula,
ME in charge?! lmao. I am flattered darlin', but I am definitely not the politician type. I'm the rabble rousing picket line sign holding type  )

g,
Funny you should say that because when writing this poem, I figured that if I were to turn it into a song that it would be an uptempo rock number.  ) Great minds think alike, hmmm?
