(Hey! If Doreen can write a love poem to herself, I can write a duet to me!!)

I can't say I've never loved
For that would not be true
But I can say I've never loved
Someone as I love you.

I am slowly learning now
that I am slowly yearning now
to be with one - one special man
to place my future in his hand

I can't say I've never felt
The flame of passion's fire
But I can say I've never burned
With such a strong desire.

I am slowly realizing
he is more than mesmerizing
that he is more than just a man
and he loves me like no one can

I can't say I've never been
Enamored by one's charms
But I can say I feel safe
When I am in your arms.

I am slowly understanding
that his presence ... so commanding
never shall be so demanding
but will ever be  enchanting

So let me say this soft and low
Though loving I have been
I've never loved as I love now
And never will again.

so...slow I may be at the start
at lending you this broken heart
but mend you might with love so strong
and loving you will not be wrong...

This is a beautiful poem and a wonderful combination of emotion.  It's so lovely in structure and substance, it feels perpetual....like an evergreen.

What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life.

Evening Balladeer,

Two thoughts, one writer and pen. You have done yourself proud this day with this writing.

Smiling here ... what a visual this gave me as I pictured you reading this aloud!

Seriously though ...this was beautiful Michael. Such a lovely blend of emotions ... I really enjoyed this. If I can get this office of mine to slow down a bit ... maybe you could save me a place in line to write with you someday too.

Best wishes,
/Kit

My goodness, do we have a split personality or what? This came across so lovingly...a lilt and tilt in time engaged the senses...

this is beautiful 'Deer...she must be someone very special...and if she is just fantasy...then you need to pen a book I think...

well done, Sir

When I saw the title, I thought of the scene in Finian's Rainbow where the one lady is singing the duet with the leprechaun, and her fiance hears them, and he asks her what she is doing and she says, "I'm singing a duet." The fiance is like, "With who?" and she replies, "With myself." Anyway, Balladeer, enjoyable read! I liked the way it went back and forth. Good work.

I'd have to agree with Irie. Definitely the best'self duet' I ever read. This one is really something...

As always, I am in awe of YOUR creativity, o noble mentor!  And I too, enjoyed the visual of your changing persona as you wrote. The student here has but one question: er, which end is up? ROFL...

Love to my talented friend...I'm ever watching and learning from you!

i'm glad that you can love yourself!
i'm glad i love me, too!
when love is love is love is love, ( as a very much unknown poet once said )
then what else can you do? (*wink* hehe)

i wrote myself a love pome once,
i know you said you knew --
but didn't put a voice in there
from someone else, it's true

the style inside these lines you wrote
seems passionate and novel!
in fact, the words which you have penned
just might make someone grovel!

i find that often, i will talk
to myself, just like you do.
but love is love, you know, my friend,
so what the heck can i do?

when someone loved is far away,
sometimes we must be centered --
split personalities may rise
from doors which can't be entered....lol

on that note, i will simply say,
there's nothing wrong with Oedipus!
so you love you and i'll love me,
we can't see what's ahead up us!

(er, i mean "ahead of us"... geesh... it's hard sometimes, isn't it? to rhyme completely with every syllable... *sigh*... anyway, great poem, Mr. Balladeer!... please forgive my answer in rhyme but, hey!! YOU inspire sometimes, y'know?)

- all you can ever really ask out of life is a sincere apology and some decent poetry -

Oh, phooey! phooey! phooey!
i got my reference wrong!
Oedipus is not the one
who loves himself so long!

i SHOULD have said, please love yourself
just like the Great Narcissus!
he needed none, nobody else--
and he would never miss us!

oh DRAT! of BLAST! oh DARN! oh MY!
this error's undefensible!
i think i'll hide again from here!
this is quite reprehensible!

forgive me, 'Deer, for i did err,
my reference was absurd!
before i answer you in verse,
i should look up the word!!!

(so you wanna be like me when you grow up? you like Peter Pan, too? lol)
